Position:      Migrant Liaison   (2 positions)           

                                                             

Qualifications:

  • Bilingual preferred 
  • Applicants must be a high school graduate or have GED
  • Must have strong desire to work with children in a caring manner
  • Ability to work effectively with staff and students

 

Salary:     $12.01 - $13.34 starting, per hour, depending on experience

 

Employment:    7 hrs per day, school year

                                   

Position Available:   Immediately

 

Reports To:    Director of Federal Programs

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Migrant Liaison

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Post Secondary training is desired

Certification/Licensure:

  • Driver’s License
  • First Aid/CPR certificate desired

Experience Desired:

  • Working with children/students, faculty, and staff
  • Bilingual preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Understanding of basic reading and math skills.

 

REPORTS TO: Director of Federal Programs

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements in their specific job description.

 

Basic:

  • Help migrant children and youth meet high academic challenges by overcoming the obstacles created by frequent moves, educational disruption, cultural and language differences, and health-related problems. Abides by the guidelines established for paraeducators of the State of Nebraska and the District.

Frequent:

  • Demonstrates the ability and willingness to perform and fulfill assigned duties as designated by the supervising teacher.
  • Assists with the evaluation, monitoring and supervision of students’ work.
  • Assists students in performing activities initiated by the supervising teacher. 
  • Implements behavior management and modification techniques as structured and monitored by the supervising teacher for individual students.
  • Attends professional development meetings and workshops for paraeducators and migrant education program employees.
  • Respects the confidentiality of information about students and communicates progress or concerns about students to parents or staff only with the authorization of the supervising teacher.
  • Exhibits a positive working relationship with students, staff, and families.
  • Follows all rules and regulations relating to school and District policies.
  • Prepare migrant students to understand and participate in the teacher’s instruction by identifying migrant students’ prior knowledge and language and by previewing lessons in the students’ native language or modified English.
  • Assist migrant students to prepare for assessments by reinforcing thinking and study skills and reviewing material learned.
  • Provide feedback to the teacher regarding migrant students’ progress and challenges in learning academic content and language and in adjusting to U.S. schools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the administrative staff.

Climatic Environment: Primary work environment is a heated/air conditioned classroom/building, and at times, work environment will include off-campus sites. (Certain classrooms/buildings may be air-conditioned.)

 

Hazards:  Communicable diseases, classroom, building, furniture, and off-campus sites and equipment.
