Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or GED
- CDL required or willing to obtain one
- Good Driving Record

JOB TITLE: Bus Driver
REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level:
- High School Diploma or GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the duties
Certification/Licensure:
- Valid Nebraska Drivers License
- Must obtain a Class C Nebraska Commercial Drivers License in accordance with the provisions of Nebraska State Law
- Must obtain a Level 1 Permit
- First aid/CPR certification desired
Experience Desired:
- Three years of driving experience
Other Requirements:
- Knowledge of traffic regulations
- Knowledge of the local street and highway systems
- Considerable skill in the safe operation of a school bus
- Ability to interpret and apply District policies regarding transportation of students and regulation of student behavior
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with students and staff
- Ability to clearly explain the rules and regulations to students
- Sufficient strength and agility to load and unload handicapped students
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor and executive Director of Transportation
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.
Basic:
- Work involves safe operation of a school bus for the transportation of students and includes performance of minor maintenance to ensure a safe and clean vehicle.
- Work is performed under close supervision and guidance and in accordance with well defined policies and procedures.
Frequent:
- Drive assigned route following assigned schedule to pick up and deliver students
- Inspect vehicle prior to operation; perform light maintenance including washing and sweeping of vehicle, cleaning windows and checking tires and fluid levels
- Maintain discipline among students being transported and enforce transportation rules and regulations
- May transport students on field trips or to sporting events
- Load and unload students, operate lifts to load handicapped students, secure student on van or bus
- Record and report all mechanical problems encountered
- May perform clerical duties related to the operation of school transportation
- Perform other duties as required
