Compensation:     $16.91 - $18.45 starting, per hour, depending on experience.

                             $18.45 - $20.21 if bilingual (English/Spanish) starting, per hour, depending on experience

JOB DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance and Custodial

 

JOB TITLE: Building Maintenance Worker I

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:

  • High school diploma or GED, or any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the proper knowledge, skill and abilities

Certification/Licensure:

  • None required
  • First Aid/CPR certification desired
  • Valid Nebraska drivers license

Experience Desired:

  • Experience in building repair and maintenance, including experience in the building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical trades

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, procedures, tools and equipment appropriate to the building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical trades
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary to the assignment
  • Skill in the performance of a variety of maintenance tasks
  • Skill in the use and care of tools, materials, and equipment used in the assigned trades
  • Ability to estimate materials needed, and to read, understand, and follow general instructions, specifications, sketches and blueprints
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty and fellow workers



REPORTS TO: General Operations Administrator

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

 

Basic:

  • Work is varied semi-skilled maintenance work requiring performance of tasks associated with the building, electrical, and mechanical trades. Work involves responsibility for maintaining and repairing building, mechanical and electrical equipment and fixtures throughout the school buildings. Duties may also involve the performance of custodial duties. Work is performed independently under the direction of the Director of Facilities and is subject to review for compliance with standards while in process and upon completion. 

Frequent:

  • Perform basic carpentry work; build and repair walls; hang and adjust doors; repair roofs, windows, and furniture; pour and finish cement to repair drives and walks; install markerboards
  • Install and maintain playground equipment; install and repair fencing
  • Tend boiler; adjust, repair and replace boiler controls, thermostats, radiator valves, steam traps, and other control and distribution devices; adjust controls and change filters on air-handling units
  • Perform basic plumbing installation, repair and maintenance; unclog and clean drains; repair and adjust dishwasher, garbage disposals, water fountains, and other fixtures and equipment
  • Perform basic electrical work; repair wiring, fixtures, fans and other equipment
  • Assist skilled maintenance workers with installation and repair work
  • Perform general custodial services, lawn maintenance, snow removal; set up and take down seating as needed
  • May be called in for snow removal, repair of damage to buildings, or other emergencies
  • Transport needed equipment to schools or work sites
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 75 lbs
  • Perform related work as required

Climatic Environment: Work environment is primarily in a heated/non-air conditioned building, however some buildings may have limited air-conditioning. Outside elements are subject to weather conditions.
