Compensation:     $16.00 - $17.19 starting, per hour, depending on experience. If bilingual in English/Spanish, starting range is $17.19 - $18.79 per hour.

JOB DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance and Custodial

 

JOB TITLE: Custodian II 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:

  • High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the proper knowledge, skills and abilities.

Certification/Licensure:

  • None required
  • First Aid/CPR certification desired

Experience Desired:

  • Some experience in custodial work is preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Some knowledge of the materials, methods, equipment and procedures used in cleaning operations
  • Ability to operate vacuum cleaners, buffers and other janitorial equipment
  • Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to read, understand and follow manuals and instruction materials for cleaning and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and co-workers
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work

 

REPORTS TO: Custodial Supervisor, Building Administrator, and Director of Facilities

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

 

Basic:

  • Work includes responsibility for cleaning of and performing minor maintenance of an assigned elementary school building and associated facilities and grounds. Employees of this class perform assigned responsibilities independently following established routines; however, specific instructions are received on unusual jobs. Work also involves the frequent moving or lifting of heavy furniture and equipment. Work is inspected in process or upon completion for adherence to instructions and work standards.



Frequent:

  • Sweep, vacuum, wax, mop and buff floors plus dust and clean offices, classrooms, cafeteria, gym, and other rooms.
  • Collect and remove trash
  • Wash walls and windows
  • Clean restrooms and replenish supplies; unclog sink and toilets and report need for more major repairs
  • Perform minor maintenance on the building, change light bulbs, tubes, and ballasts; repair lockers, doors, windows and fixtures; paint interior and exterior of building
  • Move furniture and equipment, set up classroom and gym, and take down and store equipment
  • Maintain building grounds; remove snow and ice from walkways, clear leaves and trash from grounds, and cut and trim grass
  • Unlock and lock building according to established policies and schedules
  • Check and replace filters, and may monitor and adjust heating and ventilation equipment
  • Pickup and deliver supplies as needed
  • May direct and supervise the work of the Elementary Building Custodian I
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 55 lbs
  • Perform related work as required

Climatic Environment: Work environment is primarily in a heated/air-conditioned building, however some buildings are not air-conditioned. Outside elements are subject to weather conditions.

 

Hazards:  Communicable diseases, classrooms, buildings, playground, janitorial equipment and supplies.
