Position:      Special Education Paraeducator (Resource 3)

 

Location:  High School

 

Schedule:

  • 7.5 hours/day
  • Work student days                                                             

 

Position Available: Start Immediately

Salary:

  • $17.08 - $18.63 starting per hour depending on experience
  • If bilingual: $18.63 - $20.42 starting per hour depending on experience

JOB DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT: Instructional Support

 

JOB TITLE: Special Education Paraeducator (Resource 3)

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Post Secondary training is desired

Certification/Licensure:

  • Drivers License
  • First Aid/CPR certificate desired

Experience Desired:

  • Working with children/students

Other Requirements:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Understanding of basic reading and math skills

REPORTS TO: Teacher(s), Building Administrator, and Director of Support Services

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

Basic:

  • Perform classroom support duties under the supervision and guidance of classroom teachers and therapists including, but not limited to, feeding, toileting, transferring, positioning, and other personal care needs when applicable. Assist with physical and occupational therapy for students under the supervision and/or direction of Occupational Therapist and/or Physical Therapist. Abides by the guidelines established for Paraeducators of the State of Nebraska and the School District.

Frequent:

  • Demonstrates the ability and willingness to perform and fulfill assigned duties as designated by the supervising teacher and/or therapist.
  • Assists the supervising teacher/therapist in the collection and preparation of instructional material and equipment.
  • Assists with the evaluation, monitoring, and supervision of students’ work.
  • Assists students in performing activities initiated by the  supervising teacher.
  • Prepares instructional aids, games, and bulletin boards at the discretion of the supervising teacher.
  • Implements behavior management and modification techniques as structured and monitored by the supervising teacher for individual students.
  • Assists with various classroom clerical and daily organizational duties.
  • Attends professional development meetings and workshops for paraeducators.
  • Respects the confidentiality of information about students and communicates progress or concerns about students to parents or staff only with the authorization of the supervising teacher.
  • Exhibits a positive working relationship with students and staff.
  • Follows all rules and regulations relating to school and district policies.
  • Assists in the loading and unloading of students from vehicles as needed and supervises students while being transported by district vehicles as assigned
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, therapist, and/or administrative staff.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (Intellectual, Sensory): Visual and auditory acuity for student supervisory functions, skills in written and oral communication, and skills in human relations.

Inside-Outside-Both: Both

Climatic Environment:   Primary work environment is heated/non-air-conditioned classroom/building, and at times, work environment will include off-campus sites. (Certain classrooms/buildings may be air-conditioned)

Hazards:  Communicable diseases, classroom, building, furniture, and off-campus sites and equipment, frequent lifting.
