Compensation:     

  • $16.16 - $17.36 per hour depending on experience
  • If bilingual (English/Spanish): $17.36 - $18.98 per hour depending on experience

JOB DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT: Transportation

 

JOB TITLE: Bus Aide

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:

  • High School Diploma, or GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which would provide the proper skill and knowledge to perform duties.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Valid Nebraska Drivers License.
  • First Aid/CPR certification desired.

Experience Desired:

  • Previous experience working with children is desired.

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of traffic regulations.
  • Knowledge of the local street and highway systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply District policies regarding transportation of students and regulation of student behavior.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with students.
  • Ability to clearly explain the rules and regulations to students.
  • Sufficient strength and agility to load and unload handicapped students.

 

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor and the Bus Driver

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

 

Basic:

  • Work involves assisting the van/bus driver with the loading and transportation of students, including maintaining discipline on the bus and maintenance of routes and schedules.

 

Frequent:

  • Assist driver with assigned schedules and routes as needed or requested.
  • Load and unload students; operate lifts to load handicapped students; secure students on bus.
  • Monitor student behavior on bus; enforce transportation rules and regulations.
  • Attend to students’ needs while being transported.
  • May transport special education students to and from school using own personal vehicle.
  • May perform summer maintenance activities including sealing parking lots and playgrounds, painting, trimming shrubs, and related tasks.
  • Perform related work as required.

Climatic Environment:   Primary work conditions are subject to weather conditions, and the indoor environment is heated/non-air conditioned.

 

Hazards:  Communicable diseases, buildings, vehicles, handicapped equipment (i.e. lift, wheelchair, etc.)
