Salary:     $16.91-18.45 per hour, starting, depending on experience

                $18.45-$20.21 per hour, starting, if bilingual (English/Spanish), depending on experience

 

Employment:    7.5 hrs per day, 185 days per year (during school year)

Reports To:    Teacher of Visually Impaired, Director of Special Education

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

 

Basic: 

 

Frequent:

  1. Demonstrates the ability and willingness to perform and fulfill assigned duties as designated by the supervising teacher
  2. Assists the supervising teacher in the collection, modification, and preparation of instructional materials and equipment. Ex: knowledge of equipment use, enlarging material, uncontracted braille and transcribing, reading material on tape or to a student
  3. Transcribe print materials into braille for students and staff using the appropriate braille code through the use of a braille writer or computerized equipment, embosser and printers.
  4. Create tactile instructional materials, using Nemeth Braille Code, to support the delivery of Mathematics curriculum
  5. Develop, proofread, and accurately edit materials in contracted and uncontracted braille form through the use of a braille writer or computerized equipment
  6. Create adapted curriculum materials in the FPS online Learning Management System, in consultation with the teacher and student, to support the delivery of electronic content that meets the students needs.
  7. Carry out instructional programs designed by the supervising teacher
  8. Assists students in performing activities initiated by the supervising teacher
  9. Manage and regularly update BookShare accounts for students with visual impairments
  10. Report requests for support and any observed or reported difficulties to supervising teacher
  11. Provides assistance with individualized programmed materials. Prepares instruction aids, games, and bulletin boards at the discretion of the supervising teacher. Copy, punch, bind, and label materials as needed
  12. Implements behavior management and modification techniques as structured and monitored by the supervising teacher for individual students
  13. Assists with various clerical and daily organization duties (maintaining appropriate records for supervising teachers, filing, ordering materials, answering the phone, etc.)
  14. Attends professional development meetings and workshops for paraeducators (as needed)
  15. Respects the confidentiality of information about students and communicates progress or concerns about students to parents or staff only with the authorization of the supervising teacher
  16. Exhibits a positive working relationship with students and staff
  17. Follows all rules and regulations relating to school and district policies
  18. Assists in the loading and unloading of students from school vehicles as needed, and supervises students while being transported by district vehicles as assigned
  19. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher and/or administrative staff (such as open/close the Sensory Courtyard, welcome guests, tidy up the area after guests leave when volunteers are not present.)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Inside – Outside – Both: Both: Mostly inside, but requires travel between schools

 

Climatic Environment: Work environment ranges from heated, air conditioned, non heated, non air conditioned, noisy, quiet, large to very small work areas; and at times, work environment will include off-campus sites.
