ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

 

Basic: 

Collaborate and plan with other professionals (with guidance from the Director of Special Education and administrators) to provide necessary and appropriate programming to direct students with special needs and/or disabilities to become competent in all areas of academic and social development. Develop and implement appropriate pre-vocational skills activities.

 

Frequent:

  1. Meets and instructs assigned students at the locations and times designated.
  2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  3. Develops and manages individual education plans in conjunction with the IEP team.
  4. Plans and implements an alternative curriculum that  meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students with moderate-severe/profound disabilities and utilizes a variety of analytical, evaluative, and formative techniques suitable to the curriculum content.
  5. Assists in the verification of disabilities for students and seeks the assistance of District specialists as required.
  6. Collaborates with other teachers and members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods that represent the desired outcomes for instruction and Essential Learning Skills for students, including activities and modifications of programs.
  7. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, assistive communication devices, and other instructional materials, and suggests modifications as/if needed.
  8. Plans and supervises appropriate assignments for teacher assistants.
  9. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct/activities; develops, for the classroom, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  10. Supervises and participates in fire drills and other emergency preparedness programs.
  11. Follows the policies, regulations, procedures, and expectations established by the Board and administration.
  12. Addresses students’ personal hygiene needs (toileting, clothes changing, etc.)
  13. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis using a variety of assessment methods (e.g. authentic assessment, performance-based, formative, etc.) and provides progress reports as required.
  14. Maintains accurate and complete records of attendance, absences, tardies, and other information as required by law, District Policy, and Administrative Regulations.
  15. Develops, writes, and implements behavior support plans.
  16. Prepares records for individual students receiving services through the IEP process.
  17. Communicates and consults with students, parents, and professional staff regarding educational programs, IEP/MDT processes, and other pertinent areas.
  18. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  19. Participates in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, inservices, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
  20. Completes special projects and performs other responsibilities and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
